This archive is multi-faceted, providing materials through a variety of media about the story of the Jews of Bulgaria. It has archival and private documents, photographs, films, artifacts, art, books and articles, letters and manuscripts, postcards, recipes, research documents and notes.
Ethnographic materials include information on such topics as food and cooking, genealogy, home and family, leisure, sports and recreation, music, art and culture, national identity, religious life, social life and community, tradition, work life, Zionism and immigration. It includes eight different family collections of historical materials.
This comprehensive family collection is accompanied by the results of Jacky Comforty’s thirty years of research, collection and documentation of the history and ethnography of the Jews of Bulgaria. It is the complemented by additional documentation and research projects about the Holocaust. This is the only private collection listed in the directory of Holocaust Archives of the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research.
